The milestone celebration included the blessing of the church’s newly installed tabernacle.

In his homily, Bishop Sullivan quoted Pope Francis’ “Evangelii Gaudium” regarding the importance of a parish: “The parish is not an outdated institution; precisely because it possesses great flexibility, it can assume quite different contours depending on the openness and missionary creativity of the pastor and the community…It is a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a centre of constant missionary outreach.”
“We celebrate the parish … who you have been for 50 years and who you will be going forward,” Bishop Sullivan said in closing his homily. “May those who come after in the years ahead continue to build up this parish.”
The parish later in the day held a gala event to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
