In celebration of the upcoming holy year, the faithful are invited to join Father Robert Hughes, Vicar General, for a Diocesan Holy Year 2025 pilgrimage.
From March 24 to April 2, pilgrims will visit Rome as well as major Italian shrines in cities including Assisi, Bolsena, Lanciano, Montecassino, Orvieto, San Giovanni Rotondo and more. An extension is available for those who wish to visit the majesty, famous artwork and basilicas and saintly places found in Siena, Florence, Padua and Venice.
In Rome, pilgrims can enjoy a papal audience in St. Peter’s Square or at the Audience Hall, as well as visits to the city’s four major basilicas.
As the week continues, visits will be made to the shrines, tombs or areas of Saint Padre Pio, Saint Francis and Saint Clare, Blessed Carlo Acutis, the Cave of Saint Michael, the Church of St. Longinus – the site of a Eucharistic Miracle that occurred in the eighth century – and more.
Next year is considered a jubilee year in the Catholic Church; the year has as its theme, “Pilgrims of Hope.” For more than 700 years, the Church has celebrated a holy year – a time of pilgrimage, prayer, repentance and acts of mercy, based on the Old Testament tradition of a jubilee year of rest, forgiveness and renewal. Today, a holy year occurs every 25 years.
