The annual Parada San Juan Bautista recently wound its way through the streets of Camden with Father Adam Cichoski serving as the parade’s padrino, or godfather. Father Cichoski, rector of the city’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, above left and below, was all smiles as hundreds marched, drove, played music and danced the afternoon of June 30 from Elm Street to Wiggins Park in celebration of Puerto Rican culture. The Parada San Juan Bautista was founded in 1957 under Father Leonard Carrieri, former pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Fatima Churches in Camden. Faithful have been giving witness to their Puerto Rican heritage, culture and traditions in the parade ever since. Over the years, the event has evolved from a parade to a celebration that spans from the month of May until the end of June.
