
Matilde Rivera (nee Quiles) of Blackwood, the mother of Father David Rivera, pastor of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Parish, Hammonton, died Dec. 19. She was 76.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Sr. In addition to Father Rivera, she was the devoted mother of Tomas Jr., Brunilda and Mildred. Loving grandmother of Tomas III, Cruz Jr., Matthew, Nicholas, Erik and Ciara, and great-grandmother of Delilah Ann and Sunnie May. Dear sister of Maria Eulalia, Carmen Delia, Ismael, Emeterio, Hector Luis, Aurora Esther, Anna Luisa, Roberto, Oscar and Aracelys Quiles. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Rivera was a devout Catholic, and a woman who loved the Holy Spirit and the Charismatic renewal within the Church, her family remembered. She read the Bible daily, attended Mass faithfully, prayed the Rosary and shared her love of Jesus Christ with all.
She was very charitable, giving to the Church and numerous other charities, and was a patient counselor and guide to those who sought her advice.
Sunday evening dinners with the family was her gift to the family, never failing to bring everyone together for prayer and Puerto Rican food. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and decorating.
A Mass of Christian Burial was to be held Dec. 23 at Saint Joseph Church, a parish worship site, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.
