Students at Holy Angels School in Woodbury recently sent messages of love and support to the families of the 13 service members killed in Afghanistan at Kabul’s airport.
Organized by eighth-grade teacher Margaret Trainer, the initiative was a way to “honor those who lost their lives and console families,” Principal Patti Paulsen said.
Each of Holy Angels’ PreK-8 classes was assigned a grieving family in which to send prayers and notes. The program got underway Sept. 9 with a presentation by Sgt. 1st Class Joe Cavanagh, whose two children – Quinton, eighth grade, and Nolan, fourth grade – attend the school.
In his talk, he acknowledged those who were killed in the Aug. 26 attack, led a prayer, and asked students to keep praying for all men and women serving in the Armed Forces.
“We like to keep in mind our heroes. We want to warm their families’ hearts and let them know we care,” Paulsen said.
