How did the Lay Ministry Formation Program prepare you for your ministry?
The Lay Ministry Formation Program empowered me to do what God wanted me to do. I have a great sense of gratitude to our bishop and to the people who created this program. They have a strong sense of our future and what we need to do to be prepared.
How has Lay Ministry molded you as a person?
Personally, many things were clarified. I have developed a greater sense and appreciation of my faith. I now work with full confidence knowing we are to bring God’s kingdom to wherever we are. God has given me the grace to understand this.
What has been a “memorable moment”?
As a member of a “pioneer” group, I had the honor of working with Kevin Connor, a person who put his heart and spirit into this program. It is in memory of Kevin and of his extraordinary dedication to this program, that I feel a responsibility to leave a good footprint for whoever else is to follow me. Because of Kevin’s interaction with me during the program, I feel special knowing that I have a place in my church, community, parish, and diocese. I feel compelled to respond to his dedication and carry on his mission with enthusiasm.
Why would you encourage others to become a lay minister?
Hispanic lay people need to know that this accessible and affordable program is available in Spanish. It is our duty to become well-formed lay leaders in the Hispanic community because our future generations need strong Catholics in America. Our diocese is one of a few that offers the privilege of getting ready. Let’s not delay!
