
This weekend, all are being asked to help those men, women and families who are struggling with the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.
Collections for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the national anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic bishops, will be taken up the weekend of Nov. 15-16 in the Diocese of Camden and across the United States.
“The poor can be witnesses to a strong and steadfast hope, precisely because they embody it in the midst of uncertainty, poverty, instability and marginalization,” Pope Leo XIV says in this year’s message for the World Day of the Poor, which also falls on Nov. 16.
Of the CCHD donations collected, 25% support local organizations within a given diocese, with 75% directed to the CCHD national office for distribution to grantees in dioceses across the United States.
Last year, the Diocese of Camden collected $94,140 for the campaign, with $70,605 being sent to the Office of National Collections. About $23,535 remained in the Diocese.
In 2024, there were 35.9 million people in poverty across the nation, according to the U.S. Census.
