CAMDEN – “There is a great light,” Bishop Joseph Williams said pointing to the Crucifix during the Easter Vigil Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on April 4. “It’s Jesus Christ.”
Bishop Williams was joined by Father Stephen Robbins, administrator, Deacon José René Zayas, Deacon Nickolas Naticchione, Father Michael McCue, seminarians, and Deacon Kirk Popiolek, who served as Master of Ceremonies, at the Mass celebrated in English and Spanish.
The most sacred and solemn liturgy of the Church year drew all into the mystery of a world awaiting redemption. The Paschal Candle was kindled, its flame piercing the night and proclaiming Christ as the Light of the World.
“Jesus Christ – true light of the world – wants to illuminate the whole Church,” Bishop Williams said in his homily. “He wants to bring a new and brilliant light, and hope, to the Diocese of Camden. Everyone here has a part in ushering in that new dawn.”
As the light spread among the faithful, all listened anew to the story of salvation in the Liturgy of the Word, rejoicing in the blessing of water and renewing the promises first made in baptism.
