The Catholic Star Herald highlights the Diocese’s student athletes who stood out during the month of January.

Cameron DeLeo

Saint Augustine Preparatory School, Richland

Hockey

Cameron DiLeo

Cameron DeLeo found a new gear in 2025 as the Saint Augustine Preparatory School junior scored eight goals and four assists in January to help the Hermits surge up the standings. DeLeo enjoyed playing teams from Pennsylvania as he contributed multi-goal efforts in wins over Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School on Jan. 9 and Holy Ghost Preparatory School on Jan. 14. He also scored both goals in a 5-2 loss to Delbarton on Jan. 16. DeLeo stayed hot in the final week of the month with goals against Bergen Catholic and Christian Brothers Academy, as the Hermits headed into February with an 8-7 record.

Riley Fitzpatrick

Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester City

Swimming

Riley Fitzpatrick

Riley Fitzpatrick stole the show at the South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming Associations Coaches Invitational B Division on Jan. 25 by winning two events and breaking two school records in the process. Fitzpatrick, a sophomore, won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:08.39, eclipsing the Rams record that was set in 2020. Her time of 1:05.30 in the 100 yard breaststroke gave Fitzpatrick her second gold medal of the day and her second school record, breaking a 14-year-old mark. In dual meets this season, Fitzpatrick has also posted wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle, as well as all three relays.

Alex Goodman

Paul VI High School, Haddonfield

Swimming

Alex Goodman

Alex Goodman of Paul VI High School put his name in the record books not once, but twice, at the South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming Association Coaches Invitational on Jan. 25. Goodman, a sophomore, broke the meet record in the 200 yard freestyle by four hundredths of a second; he touched the wall in 1:41.68 to beat Charles Schreiner of Egg Harbor Township’s mark in 2023. Goodman, who hails from Saint Cecilia School in Pennsauken, then eclipsed Josh Fong of Moorestown’s 2019 meet record in the 100 butterfly. Goodman’s time of 49.70 was more than a half of a second better than the previous mark (50.41).

Lily King

Wildwood Catholic, North Wildwood

Basketball

Lily King

The 5-foot-10 Wildwood Catholic Academy junior guard reached new heights, hitting the 20-point mark for the first time in her career and doing so in back-to-back games. Lily King scored 23 points in a win over Mainland on Jan. 9 and 22 points in a victory over Middle Township on Jan. 11. Through January, King averaged 12.5 points per game, which was second on the team behind Lola McGonigle. King has contributed in all areas with 35 3-pointers, 120 rebounds, 36 assists and 32 steals in her first 18 games of the season. The Crusaders have racked up 15 wins and were 10-1 in the Cape-Atlantic League American Division.

Gavin Mensch

Holy Spirit High School, Absecon

Wrestling

Gavin Mensch

Riding the momentum of a District 32 title at 106 lbs. last year as a sophomore, Gavin Mensch has hit his stride during his junior year. The Holy Spirit 126-pounder opened the season with a first-place finish at the Schalick Holiday Classic and a second place finish at the Rumble in the Pines. In January, Mensch stacked a 16-1 record, which included a run of 13 straight victories. Entering February, Mensch was 23-4 with 13 pins under his belt. Mensch supplied pins in all three of Holy Spirit’s January victories against Camden, Saint Joseph’s Academy (Hammonton) and Salem.

Tommy Semiraglio

Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken

Basketball

Tommy Semiraglio

Tommy Semiraglio became the latest player to join Bishop Eustace Preparatory School’s prestigious 1,000 point club. The 6-foot-2 senior guard scored 143 of those points in January to set up the special moment Feb. 2, when he reached his 1,000th point in a 72-38 win over Gloucester Tech. Semiraglio also eclipsed his 100th career 3-pointer last month in a 70-57 loss to Camden High School. Semiraglio surpassed 20 points twice in January, including a 23-point effort against Lenape on Jan. 11 and a season-high 26 point effort against Woodbury on Jan. 23.
