The Catholic Star Herald highlights the Diocese’s student athletes who stood out during the month of September.
Alex Clark
Saint Augustine Preparatory School, Richland
Soccer

Alex Clark’s hot streak has coincided with a terrific run by Saint Augustine in an undefeated month of September. Clark, a junior, scored 10 goals in his first nine games this season, matching his season total from a year ago.
Clark scored in six of the Hermits’ nine games in September and had three multi-goal games during that stretch, including his first career hat trick, which came against Atlantic Tech on Sept. 12.
Ty Costabile
Holy Spirit High School, Absecon
Football

The Spartans are on a roll, and Ty Costabile is at the center of it. The Holy Spirit High School sophomore quarterback has led his team to a 5-1 start by throwing for 751 yards and 11 touchdowns through Sept. 30.
Costabile’s statement game came Sept. 14 in a 34-28 overtime victory over Washington Township. After throwing three touchdowns and 211 yards, Costabile scored the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime on a four-yard run.
Josette DeGour

Field Hockey

After being held off the score sheet in her first game this season, Josette DeGour has been the model of consistency for the Bishop Eustace field hockey team. The senior midfielder posted seven goals and eight assists over her next seven games, which included a five-game goal-scoring streak. Her two assist game against Haddon Heights on Sept. 30 was crucial in the Crusaders’ dramatic 4-3 victory, as Eustace raised its record to 4-3-1. DeGour, who also excels in lacrosse, will play field hockey at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., next year.
Lydia Jove Kunst
Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill
Volleyball

Lydia Jove Kunst has become one of the bigger scoring threats in the area. The Camden Catholic High School senior had 47 kills in her first nine games in the month of September, as the Irish were fast out of the gate with a 5-1 record after their first half-dozen contests. Jove Kunst has contributed nine blocks and 15 aces so far this season and hit a career-high eight kills in a Sept. 14 match against Shawnee. Entering October, Camden Catholic has a 6-4 record.

McNally’s time of 18:56 at Holmdel Park won the Girls Varsity D competition over a field of 117 runners. Her time was the 10th best by a female varsity runner across six sections that day, which included 937 participants. Ella Petrosh
Holy Spirit High School, Absecon

Hot streak doesn’t begin to describe the type of run Ella Petrosh blazed during the first month of the season. The Holy Spirit High School senior scored 21 goals in just nine games in September, averaging more than two goals a game. Petrosh has already recorded five hat tricks this year and has scored at least once in eight of her nine appearances.
