“The Catholic Church needs more hearts on fire and divine love,” Coadjutor Bishop Joseph Williams preached during the Mass he celebrated Oct. 16 for the clergy, religious and laity of Deanery 3.
Celebrating the feast day of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque – a 17th century French nun who helped spread a devotion to the Sacred Heart – Bishop Williams urged all to “ask Jesus to take our hearts and put them into His Eucharistic heart and leave here with burning hearts [of love] ready to set the world on fire.”

Indeed, a love of faith and Church was on display during Bishop Williams’ visit with Deanery 3, which was hosted at Church of the Incarnation, Mantua. Earlier in the day, the Bishop met with dozens of the deanery’s priests and deacons and enjoyed dinner with invited guests. After Mass, the deanery’s faithful welcomed him with dessert, laughs and friendship – each parish having the opportunity to take photos with Bishop Williams.

A similar scene was set the previous Wednesday, Oct. 9, as he met with those from Deanery 2 at Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, Gibbsboro. There, he reflected on the early apostles, prayer and one’s call to missionary discipleship.
“You are just as responsible for growing the Church as I am as your Bishop,” he preached to the hundreds gathered in the church.
After weeks of traversing the Diocese, Bishop Williams was scheduled to meet with one more deanery as of press deadline, Oct. 23: Deanery 5, Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish, Saint Maris Stella Church, Avalon.
