The parish community of Saint Gabriel the Archangel, Carneys Point, gathered Sept. 21 at Corpus Christi Church for an all-day Kermes Festival to celebrate the Latino culture. Clergy, families and parishioners enjoyed music, dances and food showcasing the traditions of Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and more. Held every year during Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), the event raises funds for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, celebrated in December. Below is Father Jerold Cruz Mariastanislaus, parish pastor.
