“Mary shows us that holiness is possible.”
Such was the message for the dozens of faithful who came together the evening of Dec. 8 in Camden’s Cathedral for the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The City of Camden’s three Catholic parishes – the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart Parish and Saint Joseph Pro-Cathedral – celebrated the feast with a bilingual Mass and rosary prayers said by candlelight.

This feast day, said Cathedral Rector Father Adam Cichoski, “is a reminder for us to say yes to the Lord, to follow Him through the darkness, to bring a light to those who are in need.”
Referencing the day’s First Reading from Genesis and the Second Reading from Ephesians, Father Cichoski said, “God loves us so much that even after that very first sin, he plants in us the seeds of hope. … Saint Paul reminds us that we were chosen before the foundation of the world. It’s amazing to see how He has worked through us … as imperfect as we are, to bring about hope and contribute change to the world for the better.”
Among the priests concelebrating Mass was Father Vincent Guest, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish. As Vicar of Camden, Father Guest led the rosary prayers; prayer cards with an image drawn by Brother Mickey McGrath, OSFS, were handed out along with electric candles. On the back of the cards was the Prayer for Camden written in 1997 by Father Michael Doyle.
