Deacon Felix “Tito” Miranda, 79, of Camden, a permanent deacon in the Diocese of Camden since 1997, died on July 26.

An Army Veteran who served during the Korean War, Deacon Miranda worked as a machinist for Eriko, KMC and Garlow throughout his career. He dedicated his time to many church communities in Camden: Our Lady of Fatima, Holy Name, Saint Anthony of Padua, Sacred Heart and most recently the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. He was president of the “Curcillistas,” and a member of the Holy Name Society.

After retirement, he began volunteering in the diocesan Office of the Tribunal, and in 2009 received a Certification as having completed the Summer Institute on Marriage, focusing on Canon Law, at The Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C.

That same year, he became Vice Chancellor for Marriage Dispensation and Permissions.

With his time in the Pastoral Center for over a decade, Deacon Miranda became an important liaison between the Tribunal and the Spanish-speaking community, says Father David Klein, Judicial Vicar for the office.

“Not only was he a warm, loving, human being, but he was everything the office of deacon exemplified — he was truly a servant of God,” Father Klein remembered.

In a statement announcing his death, Deacon Felix’s family said that “Besides his devotion to the church, he was a wonderful family man and would do anything for them. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby. When it came to sports, he was an avid Notre Dame football fan and loved the Philadelphia Phillies as well. He had a good heart and touched many (lives) in the Camden community.”

He was the husband of Louisa (nee Pizarro) for 61 years; father of Luis (Maria) Miranda, Jose (Marisol) Miranda, Wanda (Ronald) Miranda – Lattanzio, and Rick (Jennifer) Miranda; grandfather of Amanda, Alyssa, Alexandra, Antonio, Andres, Michael, Christina, Ricardo Jr., Rolando, Britney, Aida and Briana; great grandfather of RJ, Amelia, Alania and Scarlet; brother of Jose (Anna) Miranda.

Deacon Miranda is also survived by many friends, nieces and nephews.

Visitation and funeral on Friday, July 31, 5-8 p.m. at the Falco Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home,  Pennsauken. Due to COVID capacity restrictions, visitors are asked to limit their stay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately.
