housingservices-webOn Tuesday, April 24, the Camden Diocesan Housing Services Corporation held the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting of the new senior housing residence, Village at St. Peter’s, in Pleasantville. Housing services staff members, elected officials, and project funders came together for the 10 a.m. ceremony. Father Thomas A. Newton (far right), Diocesan Housing Services Board, is pictured cutting the ribbon with Pleasantville Mayor Jesse L. Tweedle (third from right). Directly behind Tweedle are Curtis H. Johnson, Jr., executive director of the Diocesan Housing Services Corporation, and Peter J. O’Connor, Diocesan Housing Services Board President.

PLEASANTVILLE — Some 100 people attended a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony April 24 for the Village of St. Peter, a new 73-unit senior citizen complex operated by the diocesan Housing Services Corp.

This is the sixth senior complex for the corporation. Curtis Johnson, executive director of the Housing Services, said all the units are leased.

Among those attending the dedication were elected and diocesan officials, along with the tenants. Father Thomas A. Newton, pastor of the Catholic Community of Christ of Our Light and a member of the Housing Services board, represented Bishop Joseph A. Galante ribbon at the ribbon cutting.

Mayor Jesse L. Tweedle of Pleasantville was the master of ceremonies and Father Patrick J. Brady, pastor of St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish, Northfield, and vice president of the board, gave the benediction.

Among other officials attending the ceremony were Assemblymen Chris A. Brown and John F. Amodeo, as well as John Lamey of the Atlantic County Improvement Authority. Robert Geist stood in for Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo.

Each of the 73 units has one bedroom, except for one unit with two bedrooms designed for the live-in manager. There is also a full-time social service coordinator who will help tenants organize activities or to help them with various county and local services.

The Village of St. Peter is built on land that had once housed a convent. Ground was broken in 2010. Housing Services also operates one affordable living complex.
