The 27th Annual Memorial Mass honoring public safety personnel who have died in the line of duty was celebrated Sunday, April 22 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in Atlantic City.
Msgr. Michael T. Mannion, director of Community Relations for the Diocese of Camden celebrated the Mass.
Sponsored by the 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May counties, the Mass included the New Jersey State Police/Atlantic City PD Combined Honor Guard; the Cape-Atlantic Police and Fire Irish Pipe Brigade; and the Atlantic City Fire Department Sand Pipers Pipes and Drums.
Hundreds of emergency service officials took part in the Mass and the brunch that followed at the Borgata Hotel and Casino, with guest speaker Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
Remembering the fallen men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, pipe and drum bands played in their honor. On display were photos of more than 80 men and women from the past century who died in the line of duty.
Scholarships were given out, as well, to more than 20 individuals who have dealt with the hardship of losing a loved one who was killed protecting the community.
