The Diocese of Camden is being thanked for contributing to the special collection benefiting the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
“The goodness of the faithful of Camden is truly appreciated,” Msgr. Walter R. Rossi, rector of the basilica, wrote in a letter to Bishop Dennis Sullivan.
The Diocese’s faithful gave $60,380 to the collection, which took place Aug. 10-11.
“These funds will be used to help underwrite the cost of the Shrine Infrastructure Renewal Project, which is being used to ensure that Mary’s shrine serves pilgrims and visitors for centuries to come,” Msgr. Rossi wrote.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Mass celebrated at the basilica. Nearly 4,000 people from across South Jersey recently traveled to the Byzantine-Romanesque shrine for the biennial diocesan pilgrimage.
