‘Dog Day Afternoon’ includes mug-and-mutt shots

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — In the past five years Francesca Lanfranchi has helped to raise $30,000 for Beacon Animal Rescue in Ocean View during fund-raisers, called “Strut for Mutts,” which have been held at her school, Holy Spirit High School.

But this year’s event will be different.

“We’re going to have a ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ at Bone Fish Grill,” Francesca said.

Participants can bring their dogs to the Egg Harbor Township seafood restaurant on Aug. 12 to be judged, from noon to 3 p.m., she said. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children.

“The luncheon menu will include salad and entrées, and with every adult ticket, you can get a photo with your dog,” Francesca explained. “There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50.”

She explained that this will be the first time a fund-raiser for Beach Animal Rescue will be held at the restaurant, adding that a fund-raiser was held earlier this year in May at Estelle Manor Park.

During the Strut for Mutts fund-raisers, the sophomore said her mother used to drive here around to various locations to pick up donations. Otherwise, Francesca did most of the fund-raising work.

She started volunteering at the animal shelter when she was 8 and two years later she began the Strut for Mutts program.

Tickets are available for the Aug. 12 event at 609-839-8636 or by e-mailing strutformutts@aol.com.
