The inaugural Gaudreau Family 5K Run/Walk and Family Fun Day will be held May 31 to help build a playground for children with disabilities at Archbishop Damiano School in Westville.
The fundraiser will begin at 8 a.m. at Washington Lake Park in Washington Township. Organized by the Friends of the Gaudreau Family, the day will include a competitive chip-timed 5K race, a chip-timed fun run/walk and a one-mile kids’ fun run. There also will be music, games, dance performances, face-painting, a balloon artist, yoga and raffle baskets. Celebrity guest appearances are planned.
For those who can’t attend, there are virtual 5K runs/walks. Participants can complete the walk or run anytime from May 24 to May 31 and submit results online. Visit tinyurl.com/tfnbr3m to sign up or for more information.
The event honors Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who both attended Gloucester Catholic High School. The ice hockey star brothers were struck and killed while riding their bicycles Aug. 29 in South Jersey.
Archbishop Damiano School serves students with multiple disabilities and offers individualized and inclusive special education programs and therapies for students ages 3-21.
