HADDONFIELD – Christ the King Parish will hold Stations of the Cross with a contemporary focus this Lent.
The Stations of the Cross program will focus on the theme of walking with Jesus and will connect with the suffering of the world’s poor. It will be based on reflections composed by renowned spiritual writer Henri Nouwen to accompany illustrations of Third World circumstances made by Sister Helen David, IHM, a Philadelphia-area nun.
The reflections and illustrations are in a book called “Walk with Jesus,” which reminds the faithful that in and through Jesus, they need to open their minds and hearts to unite with suffering people throughout the world.
Each reflection has three thoughts: the contemporary picture, Jesus’ experience, and the connection to those participating in the program. The original framed illustrations will be present for the program.
The program will take place on five Friday evenings. The evenings will begin with soup and sharing at 6:15 p.m. in Morgan Hall in the lower level of the church at 200 Windsor Ave. The evenings will continue with quiet time and prayer at 7:15 p.m. in church. The reflections on the Stations of the Cross will begin at 7:30 p.m. in church.
The program will focus on three stations each Friday. Those planning the program say they hope it will encourage participants to heed Nouwen’s prayer in the preface of the book: “I pray that all those who may see these stations and reflect on them will enter ever more fully, through the passion and resurrection of Jesus, into the presence of God and that of all our brothers and sisters everywhere in the world.”
There is no cost to attend, but to reserve a spot, call Sister Janice at 856-429-1600, ext. 102.
