The Saint Augustine Preparatory School ice hockey team recorded three hat tricks in the highest-scoring high school state championship game in New Jersey history on March 4.
Cameron DeLeo, Ty Simonet and Robert Romarino each scored three times as Saint Augustine defeated Don Bosco Prep 10-6 in the NJSIAA Non-Public Finals at the Prudential Center in Newark. It marked back-to-back state championships, and the third in school history, for the Hermits, who finished the season with a 15-6-3 record.

Saint Augustine overcame a pair of first-period deficits before Romarino tied the game by deflecting a shot by teammate Kalib Carecci. The Hermits never trailed again as Simonet put Saint Augustine in front with 10 seconds left in the first period.
DeLeo’s shorthanded breakaway goal gave the Hermits a 6-3 lead before the Ironmen scored twice to cut it to a one-goal deficit in the final seconds of the second period. DeLeo completed his hat trick early in the third period, which stood as the game-winner.
Saint Augustine, the No. 3 seed in the Non-Public bracket, defeated No. 2 Delbarton in the semifinal before taking down the top seed Don Bosco Prep in the championship game. It was the second straight year the Hermits pulled off multiple upsets en route to a state crown.
