Bishop Joseph A. Galante announces two pastor appointments:
— Msgr. Leonard G. Scott, pastor of Holy Rosary Parish Cherry Hill, will become pastor of St. Aloysius, Oaklyn, effective July 27. He will continue as Convener in the merging of the the parishes of St. Vincent Pallotti, Haddon Township, and St. Aloysius.
— Father George C. Seiter, pastor of St. Aloysius, Oaklyn, will become pastor of St. Pius X Parish and administrator of Holy Rosary, both in Cherry Hill, effective July 27. He will continue as Convener in the merging of the parishes of St. Pius X and Holy Rosary.
Msgr. Scott served for many years in the diocesan Tribunal, and was longtime judicial vicar of the Diocese of Camden.
Born in Bridgeton, he studied at Our Lady of the Angels Seminary, Niagara University, NY; Mother of the Savior Seminary, Blackwood; and Pontifical Urban College of the Propagation of the Faith, Rome.
On Dec. 19, 1964, he was ordained in Rome by Cardinal Gregory Peter Agagianian.
After spending two years studying at Lateran University in Rome, and summer assignments in the Camden Diocese (Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City, July 1965-September 1965, and St. Paul, Stone Harbor, July 1966-August 1966), Msgr. Scott became parochial vicar at Immaculate Conception Parish in Bridgeton, serving from 1967-68. In 2002, he became administrator of Holy Rosary Parish in Cherry Hill, where he subsequently became pastor.
He has been a significant figure in the diocese’s Black Catholic Ministry and worked on the Camden Commission for Family Ministry, the Diocesan Common Policy Executive Committee for Marriage Prep, Presbyteral Council, and Pastoral Marriage Preparation.
Father Seiter was ordained on May 28, 1983, by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle. He studied at Immaculate Conception Seminary, South Orange, N.J., and at St. Charles Seminary in Overbrook, Pa. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Somerdale, where he served from 1983-87.
He also was parochial vicar of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City, 1987-88; St. Margaret, Woodbury Heights, 1988-92; St. John, Collingswood, 1992-94; and St. Mary, Gloucester City, 1997-2000.
In 2001, he served as administrator at St. Veronica in Delair before being named pastor there, serving until 2003. From 2003 until his appointment at St. Pius X, he was pastor of St. Aloysius, Oaklyn.
Father Seiter was secretary to Bishop James T. McHugh, as well as vice chancellor and assistant director of public relations and telecommunications. He was also director of Priest Personnel (1999-2002); co-director of Mission Awareness (2005-08); and director of the Propagation of the Faith and Diocesan Missions (2007-present).
