AVALON — Next month, a stretch of the Jersey Shore will become the meeting ground for some of the most compelling voices in contemporary Catholic thought and spirituality.
From May 15-17, Icona Resorts in Avalon will host the annual Catholics at the Shore conference – a gathering that has steadily gained attention for bringing nationally recognized Catholic leaders together with lay faithful for three days of dialogue, reflection and community.
This year’s speaker lineup includes a slate of presenters well-known for their ability to connect the truths of the Catholic faith to real-life questions and experiences.
Father Mike Schmitz, the voice behind the wildly popular Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year podcasts, brings his relatable, high-energy preaching style to the event. Adding to the spiritual weight of the event will be Father Dave Pivonka, TOR president of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, a frequent speaker and author known for his writings and reflections on evangelization.

Joining them are Father Boniface Hicks, OSB, a Benedictine monk and author who speaks frequently on contemplative prayer and Eucharistic devotion; Sister Mary Gabriel of the Sisters of Life, who brings years of experience mentoring young women in discernment; and Katie Prejean McGrady, a Sirius XM radio host and Catholic commentator whose insights span generations. Rounding out the group are Scripture scholars Scott and Kimberly Hahn, whose conversion story and theological work have made them household names among Catholic audiences.
Beyond the keynote addresses and talks, the conference includes Mass and Eucharistic Adoration at Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish’s Saint Paul Church, Confession, beach workouts, and a golf outing at Union League National.
Now in its fourth year, the conference was started by Chris McMahon and his wife, Mollie, Pennsylvania residents who spend their summers at the Shore. “People are hungry for stories of joy,” said McMahon, who also serves as president and CEO of Aquinas Wealth Advisors. “We’re coming down to the beach to immerse ourselves in the truth of God’s love.”
While the beachside setting may conjure thoughts of leisure, the intent behind the event is deeply formative. “Our responsibility is to evangelize the world and advance God’s kingdom on earth,” McMahon said. “I know people will listen, learn and be inspired.”
The McMahons note that the 2025 conference theme, “Hope Does Not Disappoint: Learning to Live in God’s Promise,” reflects a desire to help attendees deepen their confidence in Christ amid life’s uncertainties.
