Kindergarten students Braeden Montgomery and Erin Lewis hold the pinwheels that they “planted” at Guardian Angels Regional School in Gibbstown on Wednesday, Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace, as part of the school’s “Pinwheels for Peace” program. The international art and literacy project was started in 2005 by two Florida teachers as a way for students to express their feelings about their lives and the world around them. Last year, over 3.5 million pinwheels spun in more than 3, 500 locations, including the U.S., Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. One side of the pinwheel includes written thoughts from students, and the other side has their feelings expressed artistically.
