Jack Mustaro broke the Gloucester Catholic High School all-time boys basketball scoring record on Jan. 15, overtaking 1969 graduate Dom Carrera. Carrera’s mark of 1,507 career points held for 56 years. Entering the game at Salem High School, Mustaro needed just two points to tie the record and surpassed it early on a 3-pointer during a 72-47 loss. He finished with a team-high 17 points. Mustaro nearly reached the milestone Jan. 13 in a 37-point effort on the Rams’ home court against Pitman. It was Mustaro’s second-highest scoring effort this season, only falling short of his school record 55 points, which was set Dec. 20. Last year, the three-sport athlete became the 17th male in school history to reach 1,000 points, but was the first to do it as a junior.
