Father Robert Gregorio will give the keynote address at the Sacred Heart Gathering for Peace and Justice to be held at Sacred Heart Church, Camden, on Saturday, Feb. 8. His topic will be “American Military Interventions and the Conscience of a Citizen.”
The conference theme is “Peacemaking in an age of endless war.”
Father Gregorio is a long time columnist for the Catholic Star Herald and a lifelong peace and justice activist. He holds a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome and taught theology at St. Joseph’s, LaSalle and Holy Family universities in Philadelphia. From 2001-02 he served the Holy See Mission to the United Nations.
The day offers several workshops. Among them:
– The Slow Transforming Journey of a Reluctant Peacemaker, presented by peace activist Bill Hartman,
– The Documentary “Dirty Wars,” presented by investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill,
– The National Security State and Our Civil Rights, by Vietnam veteran John Grant and Dave Lindorff, founder and editor of This Can’t Be Happening,
– Primer on Drones: Waging Peace in The Era of Drone Warfare and Surveillance, by Peter Lems, American Friends Service Committee national staff,
– Peace and Justice: An Islamic Perspective, by Zahida Rahman, who helped establish a mosque in Voorhees.
