Holy Trinity’s eight graders traveled to the New Brunswick Law Center on May 21 to present the case which won them second place in the Statewide Mock Trial Competition. The case entitled, “Williams vs. South Ridge BOE,” consisted of a family suing the school administrator for not preventing cyber bullying of their daughter, an Asperger child, on Facebook. The award was presented by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation in recognition of Excellence in Promoting Understanding of the Law and Our Justice System. The students honored were Meredith Amato, Nicole Baraban, Fiona Hughes, Arianna Mullary, Jenna Nace, Joseph Skotnicki, Hollie Jones and Gianna Leonen.

In recognition of their award for the best Engineering Process during the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge held at Drexel University on April 26, six students from Holy Trinity’s SeaPerch team were invited by the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) to their most recent professional conference, the Intelligent Ships Symposium X (ISSX), held May 22. The six students from the Westivlle school who attended were Sean Barrett, Joseph Blaylock, Daniel Gomes, Joseph Skotnicki, Kyle Griffiths and Paul D’Alessandro. In addition to interacting with professional engineers, the group saw a real-world remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) from Drexel and visited the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP lab to see various designs of autonomous robots.

Ashley Patten, a senior at Wildwood Catholic High School, successfully made it through to the second day of competition at the NCFL Grand National Forensics Tournament in the category of Dramatic Performance. Only the top 48 students in each category make it to the second day of competition at this heavily attended competition. Ashley is only the third student in school history to compete on Sunday at NCFL Grand Nationals. Ashley, who has competed at NCFL Grand Nationals for four years, finished the competition ranked 30th overall in Dramatic Performance, the highest ever ranking for any WCHS student in any category.
The National Catholic Forensic League is dedicated to supporting high school speech and debate activities for public, private and parochial high schools in the U.S. and Canada. NCFL sponsors the annual Grand National Tournament on Memorial Day weekend, offering six forensics events and four debate events.

During St. Augustine Preparatory School’s May 19 graduation services, four members of the Class of 1963 were awarded “Golden Diplomas” in a ceremony celebrating 50 years since their graduation on June 6, 1963. Those in attendance: Donald Healy, Jerry Colucci, Lou Cresci and Larry Neri.

The Class of 1963 included: John Arnone, Gerald B. Colucci, Louis Francis Cresci, Donato Anthony De Novellis, Vincent Giacalone, Francis N. Giordano, Donald M. Healy, Ronald Lotti, Albert Marcacci, Thomas Francis McNamee III, Lawrence Neri, James Smartley, Richard Thomas Sweeney, Jerry B. Tronnem and George Francis Walsh IV.
