Jillian Bottino presents two boxes filled with several hundred pairs of prescription eyeglasses to Michael Mercer, president of Laurel Springs Lions Club, on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Last month, Jillian, an eighth grade student at John Paul II School, Stratford, introduced her confirmation service project, Sight for Sore Eyes, an eyeglass collection campaign to the school community. She created a flyer that was sent home to all school families, decorated a collection box and placed it in the school lobby, hoping to get 100 pairs of donated glasses. To date, 513 pairs have been collected from school families, friends and neighbors. Fifty dollars in monetary donations was also received. The Lions Club will recycle the glasses.
