Sister M. Annunziata Mastrosimone, a member of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, Villa Rossello, Newfield, died June 13 at Bishop McCarthy Residence, Vineland.
Sister Annunziata, born in Roebling, N.J., was the daughter of the late Vito and Julia (Rossodivito) Mastrosimone. She entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, in York, Pa., on July 16, 1947, and professed her vows on March 8, 1949.
Dedicated to her religious vocation and to her ministry as an educator and school administrator, Sister Annunziata spent most of her life as a teacher and then as an administrator at the elementary school level.
In her retirement, Sister Annunziata dedicated herself to her own special ministry of writing letters to the ill, elderly and shut-ins with whom she became acquainted throughout the years.
After having obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from College Misericordia, Dallas, Pa., Sister Annunziata went on to earn a master’s degree in elementary administration from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. She taught in schools staffed by her religious order in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and in New Jersey at St. Francis of Assisi School and St. Mary’s School, Vineland, and served as principal in Little Flower School in Berkeley Heights, N.J.
Sister Annunziata also served as principal of St. Philip the Apostle School in Brigantine from 1989-97. Prior to her retirement in 2001, she taught at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Newfield, her religious community’s high school for girls.
In addition to her parents, Sister Annunziata was recently preceded in death by her sister Lucetta Mastrosimone. Sister is survived by the members of her religious community, and by her sisters, Gloria Fazekas of Roebling, N.J., Nancy Susko, of Trenton, and her brother Claude Mastrosimone of Milledgeville, Ga. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, to whom she was always very close.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 18 at the Villa Rossello Chapel, Newfield. Burial was in Pieta Cemetery, Newfield, N.J.
Donations in memory may be made to: Daughters of Mercy, Villa Rossello, 1009 Main Road, Newfield, NJ 08344.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360.
