Editor:
I am writing to express my deep concern over the column written by Father Gregorio that appears regularly in the Catholic Star Herald.
Specifically, I am sickened by his relentless and gratuitous attacks on the Second Amendment, and his fervent calls for its repeal.
He makes his disdain for free market capitalism known, but does he loathe personal freedom too?
Father Gregorio should be reminded that one of the first things tyrannical governments do when they seize power is take away the peoples’ ability to defend themselves with firearms.
The wicked acts conducted the Soviets and other communist regimes, not to mention the Nazi party comes to mind. Countless millions have been tortured and executed as a result.
How many persons continue to live miserable lives under oppressive governments today?
We are blessed to have the Second Amendment in America and it will indeed be a day that evil triumphs if it is ever repealed.
Father Gregorio must also realize that his Un-American opinion on this topic might not be heard at all if not for the First Amendment. Shall we repeal it, also?
Write away, Father Gregorio, because as an American, you have that right. I won’t try to take yours away, don’t try to take mine away.
