Editor:
While the Anniversary Supplement (June 8) was informative there was a major omission! Except for mentioning that a particular bishop brought a group of sisters to the diocese and a nod to two or three sisters by name when mentioning their ministry, there was no recognition of the congregations which selflessly served this diocese and contributed to its growth and Catholicism within it. (The same was true when the History of the Camden Diocese was published some years ago!) Therefore, let me remind you of the following groups of sisters who labored in the vineyards of the Camden Diocese: the Allegheny Franciscans, the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the cloistered Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, the Felicians, the Filippinis, the Immaculate Heart Sisters, the Newburgh Dominicans, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and my personal favorite — the Religious Sisters of Mercy of North Plainfield. These are only the groups with whom I have come in contact and I mean no disrespect to others who also served and still serve, without fanfare, the people of this diocese. These dedicated women nurtured many of us and deserve more recognition than this letter can give them.
