Students from Gloucester Catholic High School stepped up during the month of March to support residents of a local domestic abuse shelter.
Spearheaded by sophomore Ava Godby and the school Student Council, items such as shampoo, soap, towels, washcloths and lotion were collected for the Camden County Domestic Abuse Center in Camden. These items will be used for welcome baskets for the women/children as they enter the shelter.
Last Tuesday, representatives from the center visited the Gloucester City school to speak to students about their program, and pick up the much-needed donations.
Describing the drive, Godby said “[I] wanted to do this … because I feel like sometimes women and their needs are overlooked in everyday life.”
In addition, she said, “[I] wanted our school to realize the impact they [students] can have on someone’s life.”
“We got a lot more donations than I was expecting,” Godby said, adding that she is proud that the school community “can make someone’s day and even help them start a new life.”
