Editor:
This is not a eulogy. Happily, this is a letter of acclamation for a fine priest who is very much alive.
For 37 years he has come to the Assumption Church, now a church of Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, to serve the yearly and summer parishioners. With his hired driver, he arrived on Memorial Day, and he promptly returned to the University of Scranton on Labor Day. The saying was, you could set your clock by him.
He loved the beach. His sermons always thanked “the providers” and the recipients of “our environs and hospitality.”
I attended his Golden Jubilee in Scranton, and sat at a table with some of his admiring students from “The Prep” (St. Joseph’s Prep where he taught for many years). This summer he will be at the Jesuits’ Retreat in Cape May for the first two weeks in August where he will celebrate his 87th birthday. He still gets down to the floor when he genuflects.
Besides expressing my admiration for this dedicated priest, I would ask all who enjoyed him over the years to write him their appreciation:
Rev. John Lange, SJ
Jesuit Community
University of Scranton
Scranton, PA 18510-4623
He will remember you in his powerful prayers and thank you while he can respond to your comments.
