Sister Monica Jacques, 95, a Sister of Mercy, and Catholic school and parish educator in the Diocese of Camden, died Dec. 11 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung.
Born in Perth Amboy, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1947. She held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a master’s in physics, and studied social work at the University of Minnesota and Rutgers University.
In the Diocese of Camden, she served at Saint Mary Elementary School in Camden (1950-1953) and Camden Catholic High School (1969-1970). She served at the House of Mercy in Bridgeton, developing programs for senior citizens, and later directed religious education at Saint Bernadette Parish in Northfield (1992-1993).
She retired from active ministry in 2005, and spent her last years at McAuley Hall.
Sister Monica is predeceased by her brother, John Jacques (Jack), and his wife Claire, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 17, with internment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
